Why Grade 4 Maths Matters
Grade 4 marks the beginning of the Intermediate Phase in the South African curriculum. This is a critical transition year where learners move from concrete understanding to more abstract and multi-step mathematical thinking.
The year builds on Foundation Phase skills and introduces new concepts that require learners to reason, apply logic, and solve real-life problems with increasing independence.

Key Concepts: Counting, comparing, ordering, place value (up to 4-digit numbers), rounding.
Operations: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division including word problems.
Skills: Estimation and written calculations, using properties of operations (commutative, associative, distributive).
Common Fractions
Key Concepts: Recognising, naming, comparing, and ordering fractions (e.g. ½, ¼, ⅓).
Skills: Using fractions of whole numbers and identifying equivalent fractions.
Patterns, Functions and Algebra
Key Concepts: Identify and describe numeric and geometric patterns.
Skills: Predict sequences, extend patterns, and understand relationships between numbers.
Space and Shape (Geometry)
2D Shapes: Recognise, name, and describe 2D shapes like triangles, squares, and circles.
3D Objects: Identify and describe 3D shapes using properties (faces, edges, vertices).
Symmetry & Transformations: Identify lines of symmetry and perform basic transformations (flips, slides, turns).
Measurement
Time: Read analogue and digital clocks, calculate elapsed time, and solve related problems.
Length: Estimate, measure, and compare length in mm, cm, and metres.
Mass: Estimate, measure, and compare mass in grams and kilograms.
Capacity: Estimate, measure, and compare capacity in litres and millilitres.
Data Handling
Key Concepts: Collecting, organising, and interpreting data.
Skills: Use tallies, pictographs, and bar graphs to present and analyse information.
Money
Key Concepts: Recognise coins and notes, total amounts, and calculate change.
Skills: Solve real-life problems involving purchases and budgeting.

FAQs
What’s the difference between the once-off and monthly plans?
The once-off payment gives lifetime access to a single term’s content.
Monthly plans give access to all 4 terms but only while your subscription is active.
Is there any difference in features between the plans?
All plans include concept videos, example videos, video memos, and emailed progress reports. The main difference is access duration and term coverage.
Does the monthly plan include all term content?
Yes. Both CAPS (DBE) and IEB monthly plans give full access to all 4 terms of content while subscribed.
Can I cancel the monthly subscription anytime?
Yes, you can cancel the CAPS (DBE) or IEB monthly plan at any time. You’ll keep access until the end of your current billing cycle.
If I buy the once-off DBE plan, can I choose which term I want?
Yes. You can select any one of the four terms (Term 1, 2, 3, or 4) when purchasing the once-off CAPS (DBE) plan
Are the IEB worksheets available as a once-off payment?
No. IEB content is only available through the monthly subscription which gives access to all terms.
Do I need to pay again if I buy the once-off DBE plan?
No. It’s a one-time payment that gives lifetime access to the selected term’s content — no monthly fees.
Which plan includes IEB-aligned content?
Only the IEB monthly plan includes content aligned with IEB standards. The CAPS (DBE) plans are for CAPS/DBE-aligned content only.
Is there a free trial before I choose a plan?
We don’t offer free trials, but you can preview a few questions on our demo page to see how the system works.
