Why Grade 8 Maths Matters
Grade 8 builds on the foundations from Grade 7 and introduces more complex concepts in algebra, geometry, data handling, and exponents. Learners explore patterns, equations, and problem-solving strategies in greater depth.
This year strengthens mathematical thinking and prepares learners for high school by building confidence in handling abstract problems, interpreting data, and understanding real-world maths applications.

Topics learners will cover:
Number Operations & Relationships
Whole Numbers: Work with large numbers, estimate, calculate, and solve real-world problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Integers: Operate with positive and negative numbers in various contexts including temperature, finance, and direction.
Exponents: Understand and apply the laws of exponents for numerical expressions and solve related problems.
Common and Decimal Fractions: Perform calculations with fractions and decimal numbers, and solve word problems involving part-whole relationships.
Patterns, Functions & Algebra
Numeric and Geometric Patterns: Identify, extend, and describe patterns and sequences using tables or rules.
Functions and Relationships: Explore input-output values using flow diagrams and equations, and represent relationships using tables and graphs.
Algebraic Expressions: Simplify, expand, and factorise algebraic expressions using basic rules.
Algebraic Equations: Solve simple equations involving one variable and apply them in word problems.
Space and Shape (Geometry)
Geometry of 2D Shapes: Explore properties of triangles and quadrilaterals; classify and describe shapes based on angles and sides.
Construction of Geometric Figures: Use a compass and ruler to construct geometric shapes and bisect angles and lines.
Geometry of Straight Lines: Identify and apply relationships between angles formed by intersecting lines.
Theorem of Pythagoras: Understand and apply the Pythagorean Theorem to solve problems involving right-angled triangles.
Area and Perimeter of 2D Shapes: Calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles, triangles, and composite shapes.
Surface Area and Volume of 3D Objects: Work with cubes and rectangular prisms to determine surface area and volume.
Transformation Geometry: Explore reflections, translations, and rotations on a coordinate plane.
Geometry of 3D Objects: Identify, describe, and classify 3D objects based on their properties.
Data Handling
Collect, Organize & Summarize Data: Collect and sort data, then display it using tallies, tables, and charts.
Represent Data: Draw bar graphs, histograms, and pie charts to visually represent data.
Interpret, Analyse & Report Data: Read and analyse graphs to draw conclusions and report findings accurately.
Probability
Investigate chance events using vocabulary such as likely, unlikely, and impossible. Use fractions and percentages to express probability.

FAQs
What’s the difference between the once-off and monthly plans?
The once-off payment gives lifetime access to a single term’s content.
Monthly plans give access to all 4 terms but only while your subscription is active.
Is there any difference in features between the plans?
All plans include concept videos, example videos, video memos, and emailed progress reports. The main difference is access duration and term coverage.
Does the monthly plan include all term content?
Yes. Both CAPS (DBE) and IEB monthly plans give full access to all 4 terms of content while subscribed.
Can I cancel the monthly subscription anytime?
Yes, you can cancel the CAPS (DBE) or IEB monthly plan at any time. You’ll keep access until the end of your current billing cycle.
If I buy the once-off DBE plan, can I choose which term I want?
Yes. You can select any one of the four terms (Term 1, 2, 3, or 4) when purchasing the once-off CAPS (DBE) plan
Are the IEB worksheets available as a once-off payment?
No. IEB content is only available through the monthly subscription which gives access to all terms.
Do I need to pay again if I buy the once-off DBE plan?
No. It’s a one-time payment that gives lifetime access to the selected term’s content — no monthly fees.
Which plan includes IEB-aligned content?
Only the IEB monthly plan includes content aligned with IEB standards. The CAPS (DBE) plans are for CAPS/DBE-aligned content only.
Is there a free trial before I choose a plan?
We don’t offer free trials, but you can preview a few questions on our demo page to see how the system works.
